GRACE-FollowOn satellites 5 years in orbit

nominal mission accomplished!

On May 22, 2018 at 21:47 MEZ, the two GRACE-FO satellites were successfully launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California - they have now successfully completed their nominal mission of 5 years. Since then, the two satellites have continuously delivered scientific measurement data in the form of monthly gravity-maps.

GRACE-FO consists of two satellites orbiting the earth, constantly measuring the distance to each other. Researchers will use their data to monitor water balance of the earth in order to estimate the consequences of climate change.

STT has developed and delivered the S-Band TMTC-unit for both satellites.
