ClearSpace-1 Advances to Next Phase

Revolutionary Space Debris Removal Mission

In 2020, ClearSpace was commissioned by ESA to build a novel deorbit mission, using state of the art technology and advanced on-orbit techniques to demonstrate the feasibility of removing debris from orbit.

ClearSpace SA is a swiss In-Orbit Services (IOS) company, created in 2018, intend on revolutionising how space missions (from disposal and in-orbit transport to mission extension, assembly, manufacturing, repair, and recycling) are conducted.

In October 2022 , the four-armed capture system developed by ClearSpace for its robotic satellite successfully passed proof-of-concept testing at ESA’s ESTEC technology centre in the Netherlands. This was an important milestone that contributed to ClearSpace’s successful program review.

In the next step, the satellite will be designed in detail in cooperation with all industrial partners. The equipment will be procured and the technical model of the satellite will be produced.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              The telemetry and telecommand communication with the ground stations will be done using the onboard S-Band communication equipment (TMTC-Unit and Antennas) of STT-SystemTechnik GmbH.

The aim is to launch the satellite as early as 2026.
